Mango Hababero Salsa

Pinterest Hidden ImagePinterest Hidden Image

This mango habanero salsa is sweet, spicy, smoky, and incredibly fresh. Juicy mango is blended with roasted tomatoes, habanero peppers, onion and garlic to create a vibrant salsa with just the right balance of heat and sweetness.

The roasted vegetables add a delicious charred flavor- which I realized when I made my Air Fryer roasted tomato salsa, and the mango brings a natural sweetness that helps balance the fiery habaneros. This one's an easy salsa that's perfect for teaming up with Mexican shrimp tacos, grilled meats, or simply scooping up with tortilla chips.

Salsas are my go-to recipe whenever I'm entertaining, but I love trying out fun and unique versions whenever I can. I've tried making a nice Parmesan cheese salsa and a fun, fruity raspberry salsa.

This one's actually fun, because you get sweet, juicy pieces of fruit alongside the heat of the habanero, with fresh cilantro and lime tying everything together.

Mango: For the natural sweetness and juicy, fruity flavor that balances the heat from the habaneros.

Tomato: For that smoky, charred flavor and tanginess. You can also use fire roasted tomatoes if you have them at hand.

Habanero peppers: Lend the signature fiery heat to the salsa.

Onion: To add savory sweetness and depth, especially after roasting.

Garlic: Gives the salsa a punchy, savory flavor. I like using roasted garlic whenever I can.

Fresh cilantro: For freshness and a bright herbaceous flavor.

Lime juice: Brings acidity and balances the sweetness and heat.

Seasonings: Just a dash of salt and pepper. You can also use an infused salt like citrus salt or jalapeno salt for extra flavor.

See recipe card for quantities.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Use less habaneros or opt for jalapenos if you prefer a milder salsa.
  • Stir in a pinch of cumin for a warm, earthy flavor.
  • Add in a veggie or fruit of your choice to bulk up the salsa. Apricots (I use them to make apricot salsa), bell peppers and pineapple are great choices.

💭Top Tip

Don't over-blend the salsa. A slightly chunky texture lets you taste the sweet mango and roasted vegetables while still giving you a deliciously cohesive salsa.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe

  • Use ripe, sweet mangoes for the best contrast with the spicy habaneros.
  • Roast the vegetables until they're lightly charred but not burnt. To make this quicker, you can chop them in smaller chunks.
  • Let the roasted vegetables cool slightly before blending and blend in short bursts so you can control the texture.
  • Use extra mangoes to make a nice ginger mango chutney that you can then use to make mango chutney toasties.
  • Be careful when handling habanero peppers and wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
  • You can also try using other fresh fruits like kiwis and apples if you want to. I actually make a kiwi apple salsa recently that tasted pretty incredible!

How to Serve Mango Habanero Salsa

This salsa is fantastic with crispy tortilla chips, but that's just the beginning. You can spoon it over tacos, serve with grilled chicken, shrimp, fish, burgers, or even quesadillas. It also makes a delicious topping for rice bowls and grilled vegetables.

For a simple appetizer, serve it alongside tortilla chips and Texas toothpicks with avocado lime crema and Mexican sour cream.
