My love for pickled foods is incurable, and if you’ve checked out my curry pickled cauliflower or Russian pickled mushrooms, you know that already.
Quite recently, I came across this trend of mixing garlic with a mix of spices and serving it as a snack or side, and I totally wanted to try it out.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
The versatility of this spicy pickled garlic is what I love the most about it.
Its spicy, pungent, and tangy flavors can work wonderfully with pretty much anything, and you can use it to jazz up any of your favorite meals.
Another big plus is the fact that you can batch-make it and refrigerate it, and it can easily last you a couple of weeks.
Ingredients For the TikTok Spicy Pickled Garlic Recipe
You’ll need just a few simple ingredients to make this easy pickled garlic snack.
Garlic: The original TikTok recipe calls for pickled garlic, but I used fresh garlic for this one. You can use either of the two.
Sriracha: Sriracha is the OG hot sauce I love and use, and I would highly recommend it for this recipe.
Red chili flakes: I also added some red chili flakes for a bit of texture. Feel free to skip this one if you want to.
Cayenne: I love the kick of heat, which is why I used Cayenne. You can use paprika if you want to tone down the spiciness.
Honey: To balance the pungent and spicy flavors, I used a bit of honey too.
Thyme: Dried thyme makes for a nice addition to the pickled garlic and brings a nice bit of texture and deliciousness to it.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Remember to drain the jar of garlic and remove all the liquid before you use it if you’re starting off with pickled garlic.
- For an extra bit of heat and savory deliciousness, use Korean chili flakes instead of crushed red pepper flakes.
How to Make Spicy Pickled Garlic
Got everything ready? Here’s what you’ll need to do to make pickled garlic, TikTok-style.
Step 1: In a bowl, combine the garlic cloves with the thyme, cayenne, Sriracha, and chili flakes.
Step 2: Pour in the honey and give it all a good mix.
Step 3: Refrigerate and let the garlic absorb all the delicious flavors for at least a day before you serve.
How to Store Pickled Garlic
The beauty of TikTok’s spicy pickled garlic is the fact that it can stay fresh for weeks, if not longer.
Simply transfer it to a clean glass jar or an airtight container, and refrigerate it.
Tips & Tricks
- If you’re starting off with pickled garlic, you can let the garlic marinate in the spicy mixture for just a few hours before serving. If you’re using raw, fresh garlic, I would recommend letting it refrigerate and ‘pickle’ for at least a couple of days, if not longer.
- Another good idea is to add raw garlic into a jar with some vinegar and let it stay for a few hours, remove it, and then use the garlic for the recipe.
- You can also try pickling any other vegetable of your choice in the same way. Green beans, carrots, and radishes are some great choices. You can also try making pickled cucumbers and pickled okra by following the same steps.
- I assembled everything in a bowl, but you can simply choose to add everything to a glass jar, top it with the lid, and shake to coat all the garlic nicely.
How to Serve the Spicy Pickled Garlic
Team this TikTok spicy pickled garlic with any of your subtle-tasting dishes to elevate its flavors.
I love pairing it with a simple rice dish or mashed potatoes, but you can totally use it as a flavor booster for your sandwiches, wraps, and more.
Its spicy, garlicky flavors can be a great flavor enhancer when added to your salad dressing.
Recipe FAQs
To make the spicy pickled garlic vegan, just swap the honey with some sugar or agave, or skip adding it altogether.
In addition to the spices and herbs I’ve added, you can also experiment and add in other seasonings and condiments of your choice. Balsamic vinegar and lime juice can be a great addition.
If stored correctly, the pickled garlic can stay fresh for weeks. However, if you want it to last longer, you can add some salt to the mixture, and fill up the container or jar with olive oil to naturally preserve the spicy garlic.
