This habanero hot honey is an absolute flavor bomb, and perfect to top over your chicken wings, pizzas and so much more. With just 2 simple ingredients, a bit of technique and barely 10 minutes of kitchen time, you'll be able to make this wicked delicious and versatile condiment to spoon over your favorite foods.
Infused honey and butters have become my newest obsession, simply because of how versatile they are. Recently, I tried my hands at some cowboy butter dipping sauce, a spicy jalapeno honey and some orange spiced honey, and they all turned out to be incredibly useful.
This time, however, I wanted to try something a bit more spicy, and what could be better than using some fresh habanero chilies. And that's exactly what I did!

What's So Great About the Recipe?
This hot honey has that perfect kick of heat that can dial the flavors of your favorite foods up a notch, balanced just right with the sweetness of the honey.
It's incredibly easy to make too, which is another BIG win. You can make it in a batch over the weekend and enjoy it whenever you want to.
Recipe Ingredients
Habanero peppers: I used fresh habanero peppers. They have that perfect kick of heat and that brilliant red color. Make sure you choose ones that don't have any soft spots or blemishes.
Honey: Raw, unadulterated honey is the perfect choice for this recipe.

Substitutions & Variations
- I used only habanero peppers here, but you can also try a mix of different peppers like Scotch Bonnet and Jalapenos.
- You can also add some dehydrated garlic into the mix to make another flavor of infused honey.
- Dried lemon or lime zest can also be a fantastic addition to this infused honey. It adds that nice citrusy flavor that complements the sweetness of the honey and the hot habaneros.
How to Make Habanero Hot Honey
Start by preheating your Air Fryer and getting your ingredients ready.
Wash, dry and chop the habanero peppers into large chunks.
Transfer to the Air Fryer basket and cook for about 30-40 minutes.
Once the peppers have completely dried up, get them out and allow them to cool down.
Add the dried peppers into a bowl of honey over a double boiler for 10-20 minutes, cool and then strain the honey.
💭Top Tip
I used a double boiler to warm the honey consistently while keeping it mild. You can also bring the honey to heat in a pan or a pot directly over the stovetop if you want to. Just make sure you keep the heat low.
How to Store the Spicy Hot Honey
Honey is a non-perishable food item, which means it can stay good for months, if not years. The addition of habanero peppers though, reduces its shelf life because of the added moisture.
You can store it in a cool and dark place at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. I would recommend refrigerating it, just to be safe.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Make sure you wear gloves while handling the peppers. They can be quite hot.
- Remember to use clean and dry glass jars or airtight containers to store the hot honey. Moisture is what causes bacterial growth and spoilage of this infused honey.
- Whenever you're using the honey, make sure you use a clean, dry spoon to spoon it out, and then put the lid back on the jar to prevent contamination.
- If you want a stronger, spicier habanero flavor, let the peppers stay in the honey for a couple of days, and then strain them out.
- Check the Air Fryer basket at the 30 minute mark to see if the moisture has completely dried up and the peppers are ready. If not, pop them back in again, but make sure they don't get burned.
How to Use Habanero Hot Honey
There are a ton of ways to put this spicy infused honey to use. You can spoon it over your pizzas and salads to lend them an extra punch of flavor, or use it as a topping over your vanilla ice cream.
I love teaming it up with some salted butter and turning it into a hot honey butter, which I use for marinades and rubs for my meats.
You can also use the habanero honey as a topping over your breakfast eggs or avocado toast or feature it on a holiday charcuterie board.
Recipe FAQs
You can! If you have some dried habanero peppers, feel free to use them instead. Using them will actually help you store your infused honey for a longer time too.
