Creamy, spicy and slightly tangy, this jalapeno mayo is the perfect teammate to your fried chicken and all your favorite appetizers and snacks. It's ridiculously easy to make, and has the perfect balance of flavors and textures.
Once you give this recipe a try, you'll never go back to store-bought flavored mayonnaise again- it's a promise!
Over the last few weeks, I have been on a roll, trying out different dips and sauces to go with my appetizers and snacks, and with the holiday season approaching, it was a must.
My Carolina Gold BBQ sauce has a delicious rustic and earthy flavor which works well with nuggets, and for occasions when I'm looking for something simple and effortless, I end up making my classic homemade buffalo sauce or spicy Sichuan chili oil.
This time, I wanted to try something with a creamy base, but with a mild kick of heat, and what could be better than a jalapeno flavored mayonnaise?

What's So Great About the Recipe?
The versatility of this dip is a BIG win in my books. You can use it for a lot of different recipes and as a condiment with everything from fried foods to simple sides.
It's also really easy to make. You'll just need a handful of ingredients and minutes of kitchen time to put it together.
Recipe Ingredients
Jalapenos: Fresh jalapenos FTW! Choose ones that are unblemished, and de-seed them if you want them to be less spicy.
Mayonnaise: Feel free to use regular or low-fat mayonnaise. I love using Hellman's mayonnaise, for its delicious silky smooth texture.
Garlic: For its savory, umami flavor. You can also make do with garlic powder if you don't have fresh garlic.
Cilantro: Fresh cilantro brightens up the mayo and adds an amazing freshness to it.
Lime: I used lime juice and a bit of lime zest for that tangy, citrusy flavor. You can skip this or just use some lemon juice if you don't have lime.
Seasonings: I used a simple mix of salt and pepper to season the mixture. Sometimes, I also like using my homemade jalapeno salt for that extra kick of jalapeno flavor.

Substitutions & Variations
- If you don't have fresh jalapenos, you can also use dried jalapenos if you have them. I love using my Air Fryer dehydrated jalapenos.
- For added flavor, you can also add some onion powder in addition to the garlic.
- Dried oregano also makes for an excellent addition to the mayo and adds an incredible aroma and flavor.
How to Make Jalapeno Mayo
Finely chop some fresh garlic, jalapenos and cilantro.
Add them to a bowl along with the mayonnaise.
Season with salt and pepper and add some lime juice and zest.
Mix and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Serve with your favorite foods.
How to Store Leftover Jalapeno Mayo
Store your leftover jalapeno mayonnaise in an airtight jar or container, refrigerated. It should be fresh for 3-4 days, if not longer. I wouldn't recommend freezing this, as it can ruin the texture of the mayonnaise.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- If you don't like the chunky bits of jalapenos and garlic, you can just assemble everything in a mason jar with a wide mouth, and blend it together with an immersion blender until you get a smooth, bright green mayo.
- To create a more rich and creamy dip, you can use a combination of equal amounts of mayonnaise and sour cream instead of just using mayonnaise.
- If you have a few extra minutes and want to lend the mayo a slightly smoky flavor, you can first roast your jalapenos until they are slightly charred, remove the black bits as much as you can and then use them for the recipe.
- You can also try using a mix of different kinds of peppers like Poblano peppers, Habaneros and Serrano's to create different flavored mayonnaise.
How to Use Jalapeno Mayo
There are a ton of ways to put the jalapeno mayonnaise to use. I love using it as a spread for my burgers and sandwiches, and as a dip for my fried chicken and chicken nuggets.
The truth is- it's so much more than just that. You can also use it as a creamy salad dressing or drizzle it onto some stir fried veggies to jazz them up.
Recipe FAQs
You absolutely can! Just remember to drain the liquid before you chop them up and add them into the mix, and that their flavor will be slightly tangy, so you might want to skip the lime juice.
