What's So Great About the Recipe?
- It takes less than 5 minutes to make- it's really the easiest recipe out there.
- You'll need just a few simple kitchen ingredients to put it together, and it's great to make ahead of time and store for weeks as well.
- It's packed with healing, soothing ingredients and is perfect for the flu season- just like my lemon infused honey.
Recipe Ingredients

Turmeric: I used powdered turmeric here. You could use fresh turmeric too, but that might reduce its shelf life. Also check out how to make pickled turmeric to use up some of the extras.
Ginger powder: I like to make my own ginger powder in the Air Fryer in a batch and store for months, so that's what I used.
Coconut oil: This will act as the base for the paste. Studies have shown that the curcumin in turmeric is best absorbed when accompanied with black pepper and fat.
Black pepper: Just a bit, for that extra warmth and to go along with the turmeric.
Cinnamon powder: Another spice that has powerful anti inflammatory action. You can skip this one if you don't have it.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- If you don't have ginger powder, mince some fresh ginger and squeeze it through a thin cheesecloth to strain out the liquid. Use this ginger extract instead of the powdered ginger.
- If you want the paste to have a bit of sweetness, you can add a spoonful of whipped honey or a teaspoon of date sugar or cane sugar into the mix.
How to Make Golden Milk Paste

Step 1: Add the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and pepper in a pot.

Step 2: Turn on the heat and gradually add in water, stirring the mixture constantly for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3: Once the mixture turns fragrant and the water has started to dry up, turn off the heat.

Step 4: Now add in the coconut oil and give it all a good mix.
💭Top Tip
Use a non-stick or heavy bottomed pot or pan to cook this golden milk paste mixture.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- To bring a different flavor to the golden paste, you can swap the cinnamon powder in the recipe for powdered nutmeg or even cardamom.
- To lend some extra flavor and a dash of sweetness to your golden milk drink, you can add some honey or date syrup or any sweetener of your choice. I like to add some of my spiced orange honey for that extra bit of aroma.
- You can adjust the thickness of the paste by adding more water, if needed.
- Remember to keep the heat low at all times. Cooking this on high heat can cause the turmeric to burn and lose its nutritional benefits too.
- Make sure you use a metal spoon or spatula when making this turmeric golden milk paste, as the turmeric can stain your silicone or plastic ones.
How to Use Golden Milk Paste
The best way to use this golden milk paste is to make a quick glass of golden milk aka Haldi Doodh. All you need to do is add a spoonful of the paste into some steaming hot milk along with the sweetener of your choice (I love using my homemade date puree) and give it a good mix. If you want to add it to your tea, you can do it too- just reduce the amount of paste you're adding.
This paste can also be a great addition to your homemade curries, stews and soups. Just remember to start with a little, and then add more if needed, since the flavors of the ingredients that make up the paste can be quite intense.

Troubleshooting and FAQs
Store your leftover golden milk paste in an airtight container or a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks, if not longer. Make sure you use a clean and dry spoon to spoon it out to prevent any contamination.
You absolutely can! Any kind of milk works well with this recipe, but I would highly recommend using unsweetened almond milk for the best flavor!
