These frozen candy grapes are the perfect sweet and sour treat that act as a perfect healthier alternative to that pack of Sour Patch Kids or Jolly Rancher candies you love so much.
They need just under 5 minutes of prep time and a few hours of freezing time to put together. No fancy ingredients. No complicated gadgets. Just 3 simple ingredients and your trusty freezer.
A while back, I had a few extra dates left over after making my date puree, and I thought of putting them to some good use.
And that’s when I made my candied dates, and oh my- everyone gobbled them up, and I was a happy cookie.
It was then that the idea of trying other versions of the recipe with different fruits struck me, and here we are!

What's So Great About the Recipe?
If you’re one of those who get hit by a sweet tooth craving more often than you’d like, you’re going to love this recipe.
For me, the best part is the fact that it’s a ridiculously easy recipe. In fact, you can even get the kids on board to try this!
What’s more, they taste exactly like frozen candy, and are a great low-calorie recipe you can make!
Ingredients For the Frozen Candy Grapes Recipe
Grapes: I used regular green grapes here because that’s what I had at hand. You could even use red grapes or any kind of grapes. Cotton candy grapes are a great choice too. I would recommend using seedless grapes though.
Sugar: I used powdered sugar here to coat the grapes and get that nice candy coating after they’re frozen. You could use granulated sugar too.
Lime juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice works best, but you could make do with the bottled version too.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Don’t have limes? Use bottled or fresh lemon juice instead. This is a must if you want that juicy, tart flavor.
- Want these to be healthier? Use monk fruit sweetener or cane sugar instead of regular white sugar.
- To make the perfect sour patch grapes, use a bit of citric acid too. It’s optional, but I highly recommend using it if you have it at hand.
- You can also use sugar-free Jell-O instead of regular sugar if you want to make sugar-free frozen grapes.
- Another great idea is to coat the grapes in Kool-Aid powder or any other flavored sugar mixture of your choice. I’m so tempted to use my strawberry sugar for this recipe!
How to Make Frozen Candy Grapes
💭Top Tip
After you're done, keep it frozen at all times. Keeping the grapes at room temperature after they're done makes them all squishy and gooey.
How to Store the Leftover Frozen Grapes
Until you’re ready to serve, store them in the freezer, ideally in a freezer-safe bag or container. You can place the grapes for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Keep the frozen candied grapes in the freezer at all times, and remove right when you’re ready to serve.
- To lend them a kick of heat, sprinkle some paprika or Tajin seasoning over them before you serve.
- You can replicate the same recipe with other kinds of firm fruits like pineapple chunks and strawberries to enjoy different candied fruits.
- For a more intense sour flavor, mix some lime zest or lemon zest into the powdered sugar, and use it to coat the grapes.
How to Serve the Candied Grapes
Enjoy these Jolly Rancher grapes on their own as a snack whenever you’re hit by a craving for something sweet. They’re perfect to satisfy your cravings on a hot summer day!
The kids will love it too!
