Recently, I've been trying my hands at scratch-making a lot of pantry staples and essentials. My homemade breadcrumbs turned out to be SO useful, and I always make a batch of Pangrattato every 2 weeks to use for my recipes.
This time, I had some tortillas leftover in the freezer, and I really wanted to put them to use, and that's when I thought of this recipe.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
These Air Fryer tortilla strips are ridiculously easy to make- you won't ever buy them from the store again. Just like my Parmesan croutons, you can make them over the weekend and store them for use throughout the week, making your homemade meals so much more delicious!
Recipe Ingredients

Tortillas: I used corn tortillas here because that's what I had at hand. You can try this with whole wheat tortillas or regular tortillas too.
Salt: I used coarse sea salt here. Sometimes, I use my jalapeno infused salt or citrus salt for extra flavor.
Olive oil: Or any regular cooking oil of your choice. You can also use a cooking oil spray if you want to.
See recipe card for quantities.
Sea salt is a fundamental ingredient that is so flavorful, you can use less. One bag has 227 servings and lasts months. For centuries, chefs have enjoyed its taste and texture. Now you can try natural sea salt at home, and love it forever.
Substitutions & Variations
- You can also make seasoned Air Fryer tortilla chips if you want to. Keep it simple and stick to smoked paprika or cumin powder, or try using some cayenne or my homemade Creole seasoning if you're looking for something spicy.
- Another great idea is to use a special oil like habanero infused oil or garlic rosemary oil instead of the olive oil in this recipe.
- For a Mexican twist, season the tortilla strips with some homemade Tajin seasoning.
How to Make Air Fryer Tortilla Strips

Step 1: Cut the corn tortillas into half and then into thin strips.

Step 2: Arrange them in a single layer in your Air Fryer basket and drizzle a bit of oil over them.

Step 3: Top with some coarse sea salt to season and toss to coat everything well.

Step 4: Air fry for 8-10 minutes until they're crunchy and start turning slightly golden brown.
💭Top Tip
Remember that the tortilla strips will get even more crunchy as they cool down.

How to Store the Leftover Tortilla Strips
You can store your leftover air fried tortilla chips for 3-4 days in an airtight container at room temperature. They can start to lose their crunchiness if stored beyond that point, so it's best to make them when you want to have them.
This compact air fryer handles any culinary challenge. Customize cooking time and temperature with the digital touch screen display or use one of four preset functions for quick, one-touch meals. Perfect for serving 2-4 people
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Make sure you arrange the tortilla strips in a single layer in your Air Fryer basket, and shake the basket a couple of times to ensure all the strips are nice and crunchy. I did this when I was making my Air Fryer crispy noodles too.
- I used kitchen shears to cut the tortillas, but if you don't have them, simply use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to do the job.
- If you're using flour tortillas, keep in mind that they may not have that golden brown hue corn tortillas will have- but that's okay, they'll still be crunchy.
- If you don't want to use oil, drizzle some lemon juice over the tortilla strips before you season them. This will help the seasoning stick to the surface of the strips.
How to Use Air Fryer Tortilla Strips
Use these crispy air fried tortilla strips as a crunchy snack on their own, or teamed up with a dip like nacho cheese sauce, a spicy jalapeno mayo or some fruity apricot salsa.
I love using these strips as a topping over my homemade salads, especially my Mexican caviar and a nice hot bowl of soup or chili.

Recipe FAQs
An easy way to revive soggy and soft tortilla strips is to pop them in the Air Fryer again for a few minutes until they become crunchy again.
