If you're looking for ways to preserve dill, and enjoy its delicate flavor long after the growing season is over, here's how to dry dill with just 5 minutes of hands-on effort.

With nothing more than fresh dill and a low-temperature oven, you can make your own dried dill that's perfect for soups, salad dressings, dips (like sour cream dill pickle dip), marinades, roasted vegetables, and more.

Whenever I have extra fresh dill on hand, I like to dry a batch instead of letting it wilt away in the refrigerator. This is something I actually do with almost all of my fresh herbs and ingredients in fact- try my Air Fryer parsley and homemade orange zest recipes if you're game!

Once dried, dill stores beautifully for months and is always ready whenever I need to add a burst of herby flavor to my favorite recipes.

Substitutions & Variations

  • You can use this same method to dry parsley, cilantro, mint, or thyme, although drying times may vary.
  • If your oven has a fan setting, use it at the lowest temperature to help speed up the drying process.
  • Once fully dried, lightly crush the dill leaves with your fingers before storing if you prefer smaller flakes.

💭Top Tip

Make sure the dill is completely dry before placing it in the oven. Any excess moisture can increase the drying time and affect how well the herb stores.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe

  • Pat the dill dry thoroughly before baking, and make sure you spread the dill in a single layer for even drying.
  • Turn the dill a couple of times during baking to ensure all sides dry evenly.
  • Keep the oven temperature as low as possible to preserve the herb's flavor.
  • You can also use your Air Fryer if you want to. Just set it on the lowest temperature possible- that's exactly what I did when I made Air Fryer ginger powder too.
  • Let the dill cool completely before sealing it in a container to prevent condensation.

How to Use Dried Dill

Dried dill is a versatile herb that can be added to soups, stews, salad dressings, creamy dips, grilled corn and potato salad, egg salad, roasted vegetables, seafood, chicken dishes, and homemade spice blends.

It's also delicious stirred into yogurt sauces, cream cheese spreads, compound butters, and marinades. I love using it whenever I make my lemon dill rice or cheesy rice stuffed peppers and I don't have fresh dill at hand.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

How do I store leftover oven dried dill?
