This homemade celery salt is the perfect way to put that leftover celery to use! Making this infused salt is super easy- you'll need just 2 ingredients, a bit of effort and your trusty Air Fryer.
Yes, that's right! It's really THAT easy. And just like I did with my jalapeno salt, I ended up going through the whole bottle quicker than expected.

After my last attempt at Sriracha salt (which was a HUGE success), I really wanted to try my hands at another infused salt, and fresh herbs were quite literally the first to come to my mind.
This time, however, I thought of skipping the old-school oven and tried using my Air Fryer to dry out the herbs, and OMG it worked like magic!

What's So Great About the Recipe?
Making your own flavored salt is actually pretty easy, and even more so with your Air Fryer. Plus, there's just something so incredibly satisfying about making your own seasonings and condiments.
Once I started making my homemade chaat masala and ginger powder using the Air Fryer, I've never looked back.
Recipe Ingredients

Celery: You'll need a bunch of fresh celery leaves. I used an extra bit I had lying at hand.
Salt: Sea salt is best to use for this recipe, especially if you love a slightly coarse infused salt. I used it for my homemade herb salt recipe too!
Carom seeds: This one's optional, but I highly recommend using it if you have it at hands. Carom seeds lend a beautiful earthy flavor to this infused salt, and enhance the flavor of celery!
See recipe card for quantities.
Sea salt is a fundamental ingredient that is so flavorful, you can use less. One bag has 227 servings and lasts months. For centuries, chefs have enjoyed its taste and texture. Now you can try natural sea salt at home, and love it forever.
Substitutions & Variations
- You can bump up the flavor of the celery salt by adding some freshly grated lemon zest into the Air Fryer along with the celery. This will add a nice citrusy aroma and freshness to the infused salt. I thought of this when I made my citrus infused salt.
- Garlic is another incredible ingredient to consider adding to your herb-y infused salt. I actually made a garlic parsley salt and it turned out superb- you can consider adding garlic here too!

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Keep checking on the celery occasionally as you air fry it. Since it is pretty fragile, it can end up burning pretty quick.
- I used a 3:1 ratio of celery to salt to get that extra celery flavor. If you prefer a subtle flavor, adjust the ratio accordingly.
- If you notice the salt clumping to the sides of the blender and spot traces of moisture, air fry the blended salt for a minute. To do this, simply transfer the salt to a piece of parchment paper and air fry it to remove the excess moisture.
- To speed up the process of drying the celery, chop up the celery leaves roughly before you air fry them. I used this trick while making my Air Fryer dehydrated bell peppers and jalapeno flakes.
- Make sure you arrange the celery leaves and stems in a single layer in the Air Fryer basket. Overcrowding the basket is a big no-no.
- If you're storing it in a glass shaker jar like I did, you layer the bottom of the jar with some uncooked rice grains before you transfer the salt in. This will help absorb any moisture and will keep the salt nice and dry.
How to Use Celery Salt
There are a ton of ways to put this homemade celery salt to use. You can use it to season pretty much anything- from salads and stir fries to pizzas and curries.
I love topping it over my breakfast eggs (my favorite French baked eggs) and use it to season my avocado toast- just for that extra bit of flavor. You can also add the salt to a simple salad dressing to jazz it up. I usually end up adding this to my spicy Italian dipping oil whenever I have it at hand.

Recipe FAQs
You actually don't. This celery salt is shelf-stable and refrigerating it can actually cause the salt to absorb moisture, which is not what you want.
Yes, you can! Fresh celery has a beautiful green color and more powerful flavor though, so keep that in mind. You'll probably need to use a larger amount of celery seeds to get that perfect flavor.
