If there's one easy concoction to help you get through the upcoming cold and flu season, it is this turmeric ginger honey. You'll just need a handful of kitchen staples and minutes of your time to put this anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting infused honey together.
Honey has recently become a staple in my household. I've used it to make whipped honey, which is a great spread for my breakfast toast and some spicy jalapeno honey (inspired by all those hot honey recipes out there).
Recently, I read all about the benefits of ginger and honey together, and also made a ginger honey lemon syrup, which helped my family so much! And then I thought of adding turmeric and a secret spice to the mix, to amp up its effectiveness.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
I'm not the kind of person who likes to make any major health claims, but I've been relying on this infused honey for years during the cold season. It's a great natural way to relieve all those muscle and joint aches, and calm down an irritated throat.
And of course, my favorite part about this recipe has to be that it comes together so quickly- I can make it any time I want to.
Recipe Ingredients
Honey: Raw honey is the best choice for this recipe. If you can't find raw honey, use the best quality, less-processed honey you can get your hands on.
Turmeric powder: Again, use the best quality you can find. If you can, use organic turmeric.
Black peppercorns: Whole black peppercorns team up with the turmeric to unlock curcumin- the powerful anti-inflammatory compound that really does the magic.
Lemon: Fresh lemon is packed with vitamin C, and is great for the immune system. It's another must for this recipe.
Ginger: I used fresh ginger, because that's just what I had at hand. Dried ginger can also work wonderfully if you don't have the fresh root.

How to Make Turmeric Ginger Honey
Combine crushed black peppercorns, turmeric, honey and chopped ginger in a glass jar.
Next, add in the lemon juice and zest and give it all a good mix.
Allow this to sit overnight at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
Use it whenever you want.
How to Store Ginger Infused Honey
You can store the turmeric and ginger infused honey at room temperature for weeks, if not months. If you're worried about it getting spoilt, you can refrigerate it too- it should stay good for up to 2 months, maybe longer. Just remember to use a clean airtight container to store it, and use a clean, dry spoon to portion it out.
I love making it in a big batch as soon as near the final quarter of the year.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Give the infused honey a quick mix every time you want to use it- sometimes, the turmeric and other ingredients can settle down at the bottom.
- Use a clean, dry spoon to mix it- you don't want any moisture getting in, as it can cause the honey to spoil.
How to Use the Turmeric and Ginger Honey
My favorite way to use this turmeric and ginger honey is to have it by a spoonful whenever I'm feeling under the weather or just need a pick-me-up. I know that the kick of heat from the ginger can be an acquired taste, so it's totally okay if you want to dilute it and have it.
I would recommend mixing a spoonful of this with a cup of hot water and enjoying it as a drink on a cold winter morning.
Recipe FAQs
While honey does have quite a bit of powerful anti-inflammatory action, you can swap it for some agave or maple syrup if you want to try this recipe in a vegan version.
